PDF

If a PDF with the same name of the audio/MIDI file ("songname.mp3" <=> "songname.pdf") is found, it is displayed in the karaoke/mirror windows. Use the "View > PDF" menu to customize the display format and access other useful commands. The same commands are available in the karaoke/mirror contextual menus. You can choose to hide the PDF if, for example, you want to view the karaoke lyrics in one window and the sheet music in PDF format in the other.

Tip: you can easily copy and link a PDF file by dragging it on the karaoke window.

Synchronizing pages

If the PDF is not synchronized, QMidi will automatically scroll pages during playback. Each page’s start time is calculated by dividing the song’s duration by the number of pages. However, if the document contains two or more pages, you may need to manually set the start time of each page to ensure precise page changes and scrolling.

In QMidi v3, the synchronization data is stored within the PDF keywords in the following format:
[page1_milliseconds, page2_milliseconds, … ]

To synchronize a multipage PDF document:

  1. Choose "Sync" from the "View" menu (the karaoke window must be frontmost). This action opens the sidebar with the page thumbnails. The page time displayed below each thumbnail is followed by a question mark if the page has not been manually synchronized.
  2. Start playback. You can also start directly from the position in the song that you want to synchronize. Clicking a thumbnail in the sidebar will move the song playback to the start time of that page.
  3. In the main window, click the page you want to sync to the current song position.
  4. Select "Display" from the "View" menu to exit synchronization mode.
  5. Choose "Save" from the "File" menu to save your changes.

You can perform step 3 while the player is stopped. It is not necessary to synchronize all pages at once; you can adjust the position of a page at any time by rewinding and clicking it at the correct moment. All actions can be undone using the Edit > Undo menu.

Tip: Option-click a page to move the playhead to the corresponding time.

Editing document pages

Choose "Edit" from the "View" menu (the karaoke window must be frontmost). This action opens the sidebar with the page thumbnails.

To reorder pages:

Select the thumbnail of a page and drag it to the desired location.

To delete a page:

Select the thumbnail of the page and choose "Delete" from the "Edit" menu (or press the delete key).

To duplicate a page:

Select the thumbnail of the page and drag it while holding down the option key ( alt / ⌥ ).

Duplicating a page is useful for scores with repeat bars. In some songs, you may need to return to page 1 and then back to page 2. Since QMidi does not allow returning to a previous page during playback, duplicating the page provides a practical workaround.;
