QMidi Windows

MIDI Mixer

The mixer allows to view/change most sound parameters in real time. You may change the GM patch (sound) number, volume, balance (pan), reverb level and chorus level on any of the 16 MIDI channels. If the READ button is highlighted (default), all the parameters are read from the MIDI file and sent to the output device. Also, the values of every control of the mixer window are updated in real time.

Non GM Patch are displayed in the form [P x Bank y] where x is the patch number and y is the CCO (Control change 0) variation number, or Bank Select MSB. Bank 127 is the MT-32 instruments set of the Roland SoundCanvas (not supported by QT Instruments).

To make your own mix, you may follow these steps:

  1. Play the beginning of the MIDI file with the READ button ON to allow device/mixer initialization.
  2. Unhighlight the READ button.
  3. Make the changes.
  4. Save the mixed file by choosing the "Export Current" item from the "File" menu.

NB: Any existing mix automation will be removed when saving a mix!

GS Effects

The GS Effects are an extension of the mixer and allow you to view/change master GS effects parameters. These settings will have effect only on GS compatible MIDI devices, but changes will be saved into the mix.

SC-55 / SC-88 PATCH

Use the PATCH popup menu to switch between SC-55 and SC-88 instrument lists (maps). Use the SC-55 map unless you're sure that your MIDI device supports SC-88 patch changes.

Unknown variation names are displayed in the form PC.CC0.CC32 + name of the instrument corresponding to PC.0.0. You can enable the "Ignore Unknown Patch Variations" option in the action menu (see below) to filter unknown CC0/CC32 values.

Mute Groups

To create a new mute group:

Tip: You can easily add a menu shortcut to a group (or any menu in QMidi!) by following this guide.

Ignore Unknown Patch Variations

If this option is checked, any patch variation (CC0/CC32) not listed in the current selected map will be ignored. This will fix the "No Instrument" error (and silent sound) which may occur on external MIDI Sequencers when an unavailable instrument is selected.
